Choosing the Right Colleges For You – It Is All About Attitude and Having a Plan

An apology in advance for sounding so cliché, but your college search should be an adventure, not a chore. You get to go exploring and find the perfect schools for you. Approach this with the right attitude and who knows what opportunities you’ll find.

The second key to finding the right colleges for you is to approach your college search with a plan. The good news is you’ve come to the right place. Follow our recommendations and you will be well on your way to making a better and more informed decision about your higher education.

Things to Keep in Mind During Your College Search:
  • There is No One Perfect School
  • Take Your Time

There is No One Perfect School
We cover this in other areas, but it is critical to getting through the decision process. You have to start with the attitude that there are going to be several schools which are going to be good for me. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a favorite however.

Take Your Time
The pressure for high school students to make a decision before its time is really irritating. You won’t even know how much financial aid you’re going to receive until the spring of your senior year so there is no reason why the typical student should be making a decision about where they want to go to college before then. When people start pressuring you to make a decision early, politely tell them you are gathering all the information you need and will not make a decision until you’re ready. You have our permission to kick them in the shins after asking you 5 times…that’s the same person asking you five times, I mean.
